Every backlink platform sees a different web snapshot
No third-party crawler has exactly the same coverage or timing as another. A backlink appearing in one tool but not Semrush is common, particularly for new or deep pages.
Coverage differences are not automatically a quality problem.
Check the source page status
Make sure the article returns a normal success response, remains publicly accessible and has internal links from the rest of the site. Pages that are difficult to discover are also difficult for commercial crawlers to index.
If the page disappeared, the missing backlink report may be accurate.
Review target URL variants
If your site redirects from www to non-www or from an old path to a new one, Semrush may associate the backlink with a different target. Search the domain and URL variants before concluding it is absent.
Canonical consistency makes reporting cleaner across tools.
Use tools for trends rather than perfect completeness
Third-party backlink databases are excellent for competitor research and growth monitoring, but they should not be expected to show every live link instantly.
Focus on source quality and durable authority backlinks, then monitor trends over time.
