The Anatomy of a Link Farm Inventory List (So You Can Spot One in 10 Seconds)

Every quarter, anonymous sellers pitch our marketplace with 'exclusive publisher inventory.' The lists are interchangeable with each other — literally. We deduplicated three lists from three different Gmail aliases last year and found 71% overlap, which means you're looking at the same sites getting resold down a broker chain, each hop adding margin and subtracting accountability.

The ten-second farm test has three gates. First: niche mix. A real publisher portfolio is deep in two or three verticals; a farm list covers CBD, casinos, SaaS, weddings, and dog food at uniform quality. Second: price structure. Real editorial cost scales with authority — a flat $25–40 band from DR 25 to DR 80 means nobody on the other end is valuing anything.

Ask any list-seller for one recent placement on each of three random sites from their list. Farms respond with articles that share a telltale shape: 750 words, zero images or stock-only hero images, three outbound links crammed into different paragraphs pointing to unrelated buyers, and a 'written by' name that produces no other search results. Paste the first paragraph into a search engine — farm content recycles itself more often than it should.

It takes longer to type this paragraph than to run the test. We do it as part of standard intake screening — which is why only 9% of sites make it into our marketplace. If your current vendor lists 4,000 sites on one spreadsheet, you now know what that number means.

Don't evaluate sites by their DR column — evaluate them by their outbound neighborhood. Search one article from each site and count commercial outbound anchors to unrelated niches; that's the number that decides whether a link helps you in 2026 or just momentarily feels good.

And a public service note from our quality team: if a broker chain offers you our inventory 'at a discount,' it's not our inventory. Sites in our marketplace are verified directly with their owners on a rotating schedule — the chain never survives that check, which is precisely the point.
