Schema Markup Generator
Create valid JSON-LD structured data in seconds
JSON-LD output
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Article",
"headline": "Your article headline"
}
</script>Paste this inside your page's <head>, or anywhere in the body — search engines read JSON-LD regardless of placement.
Structured data doesn't change what your page says — it labels what your page already says in a format search engines can parse directly, which is how FAQ dropdowns, star ratings, and rich article cards show up in results. Pick a type, fill in the fields, and copy the generated JSON-LD straight into your page.
What schema markup actually does
Schema.org markup is a shared vocabulary that describes the content on a page in a structured, machine-readable way — this is an Article, this is its headline and author, this is a Product with this price, this is a list of Questions and Answers. Search engines use that structure to power rich results: FAQ accordions directly in the search listing, star ratings on products, article bylines and dates, and business hours in local results.
Adding schema markup does not directly boost rankings on its own — it's not a ranking factor in the way backlinks or content quality are. What it does is make your existing content eligible for enhanced display formats, which can meaningfully improve click-through rate even at the same ranking position.
Choosing the right type for your page
Article suits blog posts, news pieces, and guides — it's the type most content sites use most often. FAQ Page suits any page with a genuine list of questions and answers visible to users on the page itself; Google has tightened eligibility here in recent years, generally reserving the rich FAQ display for well-known, authoritative sites, though the markup itself is still valid and useful for many sites regardless.
Product fits e-commerce and marketplace listing pages with a name, price, and availability. Local Business fits any page representing a physical location or service area business — a storefront, an office, a service business with a defined coverage area.
A few rules that keep markup valid
The content described in your schema markup must actually be visible on the page to users — marking up an FAQ section that doesn't visibly exist on the page violates Google's structured data guidelines and can result in the rich result being ignored or, in repeated cases, a manual action. Keep the data accurate and current; a Product price in schema that doesn't match the actual price shown risks the same outcome.
After adding markup, validate it with Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema.org validator before publishing, since a small syntax error can silently prevent the whole block from being read.
Frequently asked questions
Will adding schema markup improve my rankings?
Not directly — structured data isn't a ranking factor itself. What it can do is make your page eligible for rich results (FAQ dropdowns, ratings, article cards) that improve visibility and click-through rate in search results, which is a real but indirect benefit.
Where do I paste the generated code?
Anywhere in your page's HTML — inside the <head> is conventional, but search engines read JSON-LD scripts regardless of where they sit in the document, including in the <body>.
Can I have more than one schema type on the same page?
Yes — it's common to combine, for example, an Article schema with an FAQ schema on the same blog post if the post includes a genuine FAQ section. Generate each block separately and include both script tags on the page.
Do I need to fill in every field?
No — leave optional fields blank and they're simply omitted from the generated code. Required fields for validity vary by type; at minimum, give each type a name or headline so the markup describes something meaningful.
How do I check my markup is valid before publishing?
Paste the generated code into Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema.org validator, both free, before adding it to your live page. This catches syntax issues and confirms which rich result types your markup qualifies for.
