What counts as a resource page
Resource pages are curated lists of links, tools, references, organizations or educational material assembled around a topic. Universities, associations, nonprofits, bloggers and companies all maintain them.
Because the page’s purpose is to link outward, the outreach challenge is not convincing the owner that external links are acceptable. It is proving your resource deserves a place beside the existing ones.
Start with an asset, not a prospect list
A generic homepage, thin blog post or product pitch rarely improves a curated resource list. Build something distinctive: a calculator, checklist, glossary, dataset, printable template or definitive explainer.
Compare your page with what the resource page already links to. If yours is not more current, easier to use, or meaningfully different, improve it before outreach.
Find pages with clear topical fit
Search for phrases such as resources, useful links, recommended tools and further reading alongside your topic. Competitor backlink analysis can also reveal curated pages that already link to similar assets.
Avoid collecting every page with the word resources. The list should serve the same audience your asset was built for.
Pitch the gap, not yourself
A good message says which section of the resource page your asset fits and why it adds something the existing list lacks. Keep company background to a minimum unless credentials matter to the resource.
Curators can evaluate the page themselves. Your job is to make the relevance obvious, not to write a sales letter.
Broken links create an extra opening
If a resource page contains dead references, mention them helpfully and offer your resource only when it is a real replacement. This combines maintenance value with a useful new recommendation.
Do not report ten dead links merely to create pressure. One accurate observation with a fitting replacement is enough.
Maintain the asset after earning links
Resource-page links can last for years when the destination stays useful. Update data, repair tools and keep URLs stable. A neglected resource eventually creates the same broken-link problem you used to earn the placement.
Resource pages complement guest posts because they link for a different reason: utility rather than contributed publishing.
