Start with the page you are trying to promote
A product category, original study, local service page and free tool should not all use the same outreach script. Each page has a different reason someone might link to it. The best method begins with that reason.
Before prospecting, write one sentence answering: “Why would a publisher link to this page if rankings did not exist?” If the answer is weak, improve the asset before scaling outreach.
Use assets that naturally earn citations
Original data, calculators, templates, visual resources and expert research give outreach a stronger foundation than a generic commercial page. These assets are easier to cite because they add something to the publisher’s own content.
You can then use internal links from the earned-link asset to support related commercial pages, rather than forcing every external backlink directly to a sales URL.
Add targeted outreach and relationship building
Good outreach is not a list blast. Research publications that already cover the topic, identify a specific page or editorial gap, and make the request relevant to that context. Responses improve when the email demonstrates that the sender understands the site.
Relationship-driven links are slower but often more durable because they are built on real collaboration: partners, associations, suppliers, customers, podcasts and industry contributors.
Use guest posting and digital PR where they genuinely fit
Guest posts are useful when you have expertise that fits the host publication and the article stands on its own. Digital PR is stronger when you have data, commentary or a story journalists can use.
A mixed strategy can include guest posts, digital PR and niche-specific resource outreach without repeating one footprint across the entire profile.
Measure quality by outcomes, not delivery volume
Track referring domains, source relevance, page traffic, link survival and whether target pages improve over time. A campaign that “delivered 100 links” can still be poor if the links come from weak or duplicated sources.
The best method is the one that repeatedly produces defensible links your business would be comfortable explaining to a customer, editor or search quality reviewer.
